About Shepherd's Dog

Up on the hill farms of the Fells the flock is out to graze, and the dog must bring it home. Sheep step away from you and keep to their neighbours, so you never push one sheep: you lean on the whole flock from the right side and let it drift.

Hedges, a brook with one bridge, drive gates, bogs, stubborn rams, lambs that follow their ewe and wolves that slip out of the wood stand between the flock and the fold.

How to play

Goal
Drive every sheep into the fold by running round the flock: sheep step away from the dog and keep together.
How it ends
The pasture is won when every sheep left is in the fold; it is lost if the sun sets first or wolves and bogs take more sheep than the pasture can spare.
Record
For every pasture, the ten best trial scores and the ten fastest whole-flock folds, each checked by replaying the run.
  1. Press on the flock, drag to where it should go and keep holding. A golden arrow shows the way the flock will take, round a hedge or the fold's wall, and the dog gets behind the sheep and walks them toward your finger. Let go and the dog stops.
  2. Press anywhere else and the dog runs there and waits; the arrow keys run it directly. Sheep inside the dashed ring round the dog walk away from it and keep together; outside it they graze.
  3. Drag the flock onto a drive gate to take it through. Each sheep that misses a gate costs 3 points when it is folded. Once some are in, sheep the dog is not driving are ringed in gold.
  4. Sprint and bark move sheep at once but frighten them: a frightened sheep bolts and half forgets the bogs, and every eight sheep-seconds of fright cost a point. A bark that sends a wolf off costs nothing.
  5. A sheep that stays four seconds in a bog is lost, and so is one a wolf drags into the wood. Run at a wolf, or bark while it is inside the orange ring round the dog.
  6. Points start at 100, less 15 for each sheep lost. Fold every sheep before sundown; a pasture can spare only the sheep its card says. A new place opens after two pastures of the one before.
  7. Each pasture gives up to three stars: for folding it, for a clean 100 points, and for folding it within the shepherd's time on its card. Every pasture keeps a Top 10 for points and one for the fastest fold.
