About Badger Hollow

Under a quiet meadow, burrow beasts have moved into the badger's hollow. Root-imps wait in their burrows, ember newts glow in the deep veins, and any beast left alone too long turns into a wisp that drifts straight through the earth.

Every tunnel you dig is also a road the beasts can use, so planning the dig is the game: lure them under a boulder and cut the earth beneath it, catch a newt from the side before it breathes fire, and grab the truffle that sprouts after two boulders fall. Ten places from a meadow to the roots of an ancient tree, and every hollow keeps a top ten for score and for the fastest clear.

How to play

Goal
Clear every burrow beast from the hollow by puffing it full of spores or dropping a boulder on it.
How it ends
The hollow is cleared when no beast is left (the last one may flee to the surface); it is lost when your three lives are spent or the lantern burns out first.
Record
For every hollow, the ten best scores and the ten fastest clears, each checked by replaying the run.
  1. Dig with the arrow keys or WASD, or drag on the hollow: the badger goes the way your finger moves. It turns at tunnel crossings, and a turn pressed early waits for the next one. Hold Space, or the Puff button on a touch screen, while facing a beast within three cells along a tunnel: each puff swells it and the fourth bursts it.
  2. Once you have stood in the cell beneath a boulder and stepped away, it wobbles and falls down the tunnel, crushing every beast it meets: 1,000 for one, 2,500 for two at once. After two boulders fall, a truffle sprouts where you started. Deeper beasts are worth more, and an ember newt is worth double puffed from the side.
  3. A beast, a wisp, newt fire or a falling boulder costs one of three lives. Wisps drift through earth and can only be crushed; a glowing newt breathes fire three cells along its row. The last beast flees to the surface. Red clay digs at half speed, grey stone cannot be dug. Clear every beast before the lantern burns out.

Ranked results are checked by replaying your moves. Gentle in Settings slows the beasts to half speed, as practice. Your progress stays in this browser.
