About Grub Garden

Grubs are winding down through a gnome's garden at dusk. Each one crawls sideways along a row, and when it meets a toadstool or the hedge it drops a row and turns round, coming closer to the flower bed where the gnome stands with his blowpipe.

Shoot a segment and it bursts into a new toadstool and the grub splits in two, so every shot changes the garden the grubs are crawling through. Spiders jump through the bed, beetles drop sowing toadstools and slugs poison them, across six gardens from the kitchen beds to a witch's patch. Every garden keeps a top ten for score and for the fastest clear.

How to play

Goal
Shoot every segment of the grubs winding down through the garden before they reach you, and keep the flowers at the bottom safe.
How it ends
The garden is cleared when the last segment is gone; it is lost when your three lives are spent or dusk falls first.
Record
For every garden, the ten best scores and the ten fastest clears, each checked by replaying the run.
  1. Move the gnome around the flower bed at the bottom with the arrow keys or WASD, or by dragging on the garden: the gnome follows your finger's movement, so it never hides under it. Seeds fly straight up while you hold Space or your finger down, one seed in the air at a time.
  2. A grub crawls sideways; at a toadstool or the hedge it drops a row and turns round. Shoot every segment to clear the garden: a head scores 100, a body segment 10, and each segment you shoot becomes a toadstool and splits the grub, the back half growing a head of its own. Toadstools take four seeds.
  3. A grub, spider or beetle touching the gnome costs one of three lives, and once a grub has reached the bed, lone heads creep in from the hedges. Spiders eat toadstools and flowers, beetles drop through bare columns sowing more, and slugs turn toadstools purple: a grub that meets a purple one dives straight down. Each flower left at the clear scores 250; clear before the sundial reaches dusk.

Good to know

Ranked results are checked by replaying your moves. Gentle in Settings slows the grubs to half speed, as practice. Your progress stays in this browser.
