Brick Breaker

The shield never breaks anything. It only holds — and the spark does the rest.

About Brick Breaker

An armoury of the Iron Warden, sealed by a ward with no handle on the inside. A warden holds a shield at the threshold and keeps a forge-spark alive; the spark breaks the courses of sealed wards, one at a time, until the last one falls and the vault opens.

The shield never strikes a ward and cannot be aimed at one. Where you catch the spark is how you aim it: the middle of the shield sends it up, the edges send it out, and those eleven angles are the whole of the game.

Beside the score is the heat. Every ward broken while the spark is away from the shield is worth one more multiple, to nine — and the moment it comes home, it is back to one. Cutting a lane up the side and letting the spark run along the ceiling is what the number is measuring.

Sixteen hand-cut vaults in four tiers, a vault of the day that is the same for everyone, and an endless Deepening on a single spark. Every one keeps its own board of ten, and nothing sends a score: a finished run is sent as its replay and played again on the server, so any place on any board can be watched.

No power-downs. Every sigil that falls out of a broken ward is good — a wider shield, a slower spark, a spark that sticks so you can aim it, three sparks, bolts, a spark that passes through what it breaks, or one more warden.

How to play

  1. Pick a run — all sixteen vaults, one vault against the clock, today's vault, or the endless Deepening — then press Play. Nothing moves until you send the spark.
  2. Slide the shield with the mouse, with the arrow keys, or by dragging anywhere on the field. Click, tap or press Space to send the spark, to let a held one go, and to throw a bolt.
  3. Copper takes one hit, iron two, steel three, silver four. The gold ones never break, and speed the spark up every time it is struck.
  4. Ten seconds with nothing broken and the vault drops a course; when the lowest course reaches the warden's line it gives way, for no points. Nobody chases one last ward around an empty vault.
  5. A pause gives up the run's place on the board. The back arrow does not — it ends the run and keeps it.

Nineteen boards of ten, each replay-verified on the server. The Warden's Roll keeps your own career — runs, wards, accuracy, best heat and every vault's best time — in this browser and nowhere else. Sound, motion and the Roll are saved in this browser.
