About Hamlet Grid
A planning puzzle on a farmer's plot. Each turn the carter brings two carts of goods, and the goods decide what you may build: crofts, springs, barley, mills, shrines, inns and stalls, painted wooden pieces on a meadow board. Every building scores from its neighbours, so where it goes matters most.
The next two turns are always shown and every plot is fixed. Rivers, roads, rock, woods and old ruins change the ground from valley to valley, and each plot has three marks, the last set by the surveyor's best plan.
How to play
- Goal
- Fill every open square of the plot with buildings and score as many points as you can.
- How it ends
- The hamlet is finished when the last square is built; it cannot be lost.
- Record
- The highest score for each plot, then the quicker finish on a tie.
- Each turn two carts arrive. Choose one building a cart allows, then a grass square; the plot is finished when every open square is built.
- Before you build, the chosen square shows the points the building would add and how each neighbour's points would change. On a touch screen the first tap shows this and the second tap builds; a mouse click builds at once.
- A Croft scores 3 beside a Spring or the river, else 1. A Mill scores 2 for each Barley and 1 for each river square beside it. A Shrine scores 2 for each Croft in its row and column. An Inn scores by how many kinds of neighbour it has. A Stall scores for Crofts within two steps and for roads beside it. The rules panel lists every number.
- Take back undoes the last building and Clear empties the plot; the clock keeps running. Hedge, Lane and the Lord's mark grade the finished hamlet.
