About Hive Meadow
In the hill country of Orenvalt the skep-wardens set their straw hives among the wildflowers. Each flower in a meadow carries a number: how many hives its bees can reach. Place the hives so every flower gets exactly its number, no two hives stand side by side, and the meadow holds just as many as it says.
Ten glades, from a dawn clearing to the Queen's Garden, bring white daisies that reach only their neighbours, standing stones, and tallies along the rows and columns. Every one of the 120 meadows has a single answer you can reach without guessing, and each keeps the fastest first solve.
How to play
- Goal
- Place hives so every flower is reached by exactly its number of hives, no two hives touch (not even at a corner), and the meadow holds exactly its stated number of hives.
- How it ends
- A meadow is won the moment the last hive makes every rule true; there is no way to lose.
- Record
- The fastest first solve of each meadow, with its holder's name, and the ten fastest first solves.
- A violet bellflower counts the hives up to two steps away, stepping up, down, left or right. A white daisy counts only the four cells beside it. Every flower must reach exactly its number, and no two hives may touch, not even at a corner. The meadow holds exactly the number of hives shown at the top.
- Tap grass to set a hive; tap again to mark it as empty, and again to clear it. Press a flower to light the cells it counts. A flower blooms when it has its number and turns red when it has too many or can no longer get enough. Some glades add stones, where no hive may stand, and numbers beside rows and above columns that count the hives in that line.
- The clock starts when a meadow is first opened and keeps running if you leave it. Only your first solve of each meadow counts for the records; later solves are practice.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Tap / click grass | Hive, then a mark, then grass again |
| Mark tool · right-click · long press | Mark grass as empty; drag to mark several |
| Tap a flower | Light the cells it counts |
| Arrows · Space · H · M · Backspace | Move · set as the tool does · hive · mark · clear |
| Z · Y · Shift+R | Undo · redo · restart (the clock keeps running) |
Tips
- Start from a zero. A bellflower showing 0 clears its whole diamond; mark it and the rest of the meadow shrinks.
- Count the room. A flower that needs as many hives as it has open cells takes a hive on every one.
- Compare two flowers. Where two reaches overlap, what one needs inside the overlap tells you about the other's outer cells.

Questions
Does every meadow have one answer?
Yes. Each of the 120 meadows was checked by two separate solvers to have exactly one answer, and each can be solved step by step without guessing.
What counts for the records?
Your first solve of each meadow in this browser, timed from the moment you first opened it. Later solves are practice.
