How to play
- Goal
- Divide the square into as many connected rooms as its width, each containing that many cells and no repeated letter.
- How it ends
- The chart finishes when every cell belongs to a room and all room rules agree; Erase and Undo repair mistakes, so there is no loss state.
- Record
- The fastest uninterrupted first solve of each chart is kept with its holder’s name; replay is practice.
- On an N×N chart, make N rooms with N cells each. Every cell must belong to one room.
- Cells in a room must connect through sides. Touching only at a corner does not connect them. Rooms may bend and neighbouring rooms may have the same size.
- Never repeat a letter inside a room. Our charts use N letters, so each completed room contains every displayed letter once. There are no row or column uniqueness rules.
- In the worked example, the two A letters cannot share a room. Each A joins the B directly below it: two vertical rooms of two cells.
- Choose a room number, then tap its cells. Changing the selected room does not paint a cell. Erase, Undo and Redo repair mistakes; letters never change.
- Restart keeps the first clock. Reload preserves assignments and Undo; resumed finishes stay local. Replay preserves your first time.

Tips for Burokku
- Start at a corner A corner has only two side neighbours, which limits its possible room shapes.
- Keep a room’s letter inventory A repeated letter means one of those cells belongs to another room.
- Use completed rooms Their cells are unavailable to every remaining room, which can force the next group.
- Connect through sides A diagonal touch cannot join separated pieces of a room.
Questions about this game
Do room numbers have fixed positions?
No. Use the numbers in any order; they are names for the rooms.
Can equal letters touch?
Yes, if they belong to different rooms. A single room cannot repeat a letter.
Does a diagonal touch connect a room?
No. A chain of side-connected cells is required.
Can a room bend?
Yes. Any side-connected shape with the right size and different letters is valid.
Can Replay improve my first time?
No. Your first finish remains saved; Replay is practice.
All charts are open. Room numbers are arbitrary labels. The first clock starts on opening and continues through Restart; Replay keeps your first finish.
