How to play
- Goal
- Mark every cell White or Dark so numbered islands have their exact area and dark strips stay straight, with unequal lengths at corner contacts.
- How it ends
- The chart finishes when every cell is marked and all islands and strips satisfy those rules; there is no loss state.
- Record
- Each chart keeps your first solve time, and an uninterrupted first solve can claim the named fastest time.
- Mark every cell White or Dark. Printed number cells remain White.
- Each side-connected White island contains exactly one printed number and has that many cells, including the number.
- Every side-connected Dark group is a straight horizontal or vertical strip, one cell wide. A singleton is allowed.
- Distinct Dark strips touching at corners must have different lengths. There is no connected Dark sea rule.

Tips for Nuribou
- Start with one An island numbered one cannot grow. Its side neighbours must be Dark.
- Keep strips straight A Dark group cannot turn a corner or branch.
- Compare whole strips Corner contacts compare the lengths of complete Dark groups, rather than only the cells touching.
Questions about this game
Must all cells be marked?
Yes. Unknown cells prevent completion.
Can Dark strips touch along an edge?
Side-touching Dark cells belong to one group. That whole group must form a straight strip.
Must the Dark cells form one connected sea?
No. Nuribou uses separate straight Dark strips.
What does current dark group mean?
It counts the side-connected Dark cells in your current marks. It does not certify that the group is legal or supply a deduction.
Are the shelves difficulty levels?
Their names do not promise a difficulty ranking. The shelves hold six 4×4 charts, followed by three groups of thirty 5×5 charts.
Does Restart reset the clock?
No. It clears editable marks and keeps the original clock. Undo restores the cleared marks.
What happens when I replay?
Replay is untimed Practice and preserves your first finish. Reloaded unfinished attempts remain local while progress and Undo are retained.
All charts and worked diagrams are original. Progress and Undo save in this browser. The first clock begins when you select a chart. Reloaded attempts and detected clock or browser-suspension discontinuities stay local. Unsafe or unavailable storage is reported in-game. This is an independent implementation of the classic Nuribou puzzle rules.
