About Nonogram

Classic nonograms by candlelight: 240 hand-drawn pictures in eight folios, from lanterns and ravens to dragons, plus a daily board. One folio is drawn from our novel, The Cistern Heresy.

Every board is proven solvable by logic alone, so it has exactly one answer. No lives, no mistake limit, no countdown.

How to play

  1. The numbers give the runs of filled cells in each row and column, in order.
  2. Fill the cells they describe to reveal the picture. Cross cells you know are empty.

Tips for Nonogram

  • Start with the big numbers. A run longer than half the line always covers its middle cells.
  • Cross what cannot be filled. Crosses make the next deduction visible.
  • Use Zoom on a phone. The clue numbers stay pinned while you move around a large board.

Questions about this game

Can a board need guessing?

No. Every board was solved row by row and column by column with logic alone before it was added, which also proves it has only one answer.

What is the Cistern Heresy folio?

Thirty pictures of things from our novel of that name; each finished picture shows the line of the book it comes from.

What does Check do?

It marks wrong cells. A board finished after Check does not count for the public best time.
