About Double Minesweeper

Place zero, one or two mines in every open square. Each numbered clue counts the mines around it, including diagonals. Two mines can share a square, so a clue can exceed its number of neighbours.

Choose among 653 original charts in three sizes. Distinguish undecided squares from confirmed safe zeros, compare overlapping clues and revise any entry without a loss limit.

How to play

Goal
Place 0, 1 or 2 mines in each open square. A numbered clue equals the mines in its eight neighbouring squares, including diagonals.
How it ends
Decide every open square and match all clues. Mistakes can always be erased or undone.
Record
Your first-solve time is kept for each puzzle. Later solves are untimed practice.
  1. Numbered clue squares are fixed and contain no mines. Each clue adds the mines in its eight neighbouring squares, including diagonals; squares beyond the board do not count.
  2. Every open square must contain 0, 1 or 2 mines. Double-mine squares may touch each other. There is no separate total mine count.
  3. Choose Safe, Mine or Double, then tap or paint open squares. Clear returns a square to undecided; a printed 0 confirms it is safe.
  4. Finish by deciding every open square and matching every clue. Matching a subtotal is not enough while neighbours remain undecided.
  5. Undo and Redo revise an action. Restart clears the same chart while its original clock continues.

Tips

  • Start with zero Every neighbour of a zero clue is safe. Mark each as 0 rather than leaving it blank.
  • Compare shared neighbours Two nearby clues often count some of the same squares. Subtract their shared contribution to constrain the remaining squares.

Good to know

Progress and history save in this browser. The first clock starts when a chart opens and continues through menus and Restart. Reloaded unfinished charts retain local progress and timing but cannot rank publicly. Later solves are untimed practice. Music, effects and reduced motion have separate settings.

Questions

Can double mines touch?

Yes. There is no spacing rule for mine squares. Only the numbered sums constrain them.

Why does a matching clue remain unfinished?

Its neighbours are not all decided yet. Mark safe squares with 0; a blank remains unknown.
