How to play
- Goal
- Place one number in each room, equal to that room's cell count, so consecutive numbers in every row and column have exactly their difference in empty cells between them.
- How it ends
- A chart is won when every room has its number and every row and column obeys the spacing rule; there is no loss state.
- Record
- The first unaided solve of each chart earns one time record; later solves are practice and keep the first time.
- Each brass outline marks a province. Its small corner number is its area. Tap one cell in that province to place exactly one rune with that number; tap another cell in the same province to move it, or tap it again to lift it.
- Compare only consecutive runes in each row or column. The number of empty squares between them must equal the difference between their values. In the worked picture, placing 4 in the upper-right province leaves two empty squares between it and 2, both across the row and down the column.
- Givens stay fixed. Undo and Redo repair slips. Restart clears your runes without resetting the first-solve clock. Only your first solve can claim a record; later solves are practice.

Tips for Hanare
- Start with a fixed rune Its nearest visible neighbours can often be placed from their room sizes and the exact gap between them.
- Count blank squares The distance in the rule excludes the two rune squares themselves.
- Watch the outlines Each province receives one rune even when it covers several rows or columns.
Questions about this game
Do other runes in the row matter?
Only consecutive runes compare. A more distant pair has a rune between them, so it is not checked directly.
Can some squares stay empty?
Yes. Most squares remain empty; only one rune goes in each province.
Does Restart reset my first time?
No. The first-solve clock keeps running through Restart.
Why is a resumed chart local only?
A saved unfinished chart remains playable after reload, but only an uninterrupted first solve can be submitted as a record.
All 160 charts have distinct pinned identities, one independently counted solution, a no-guess deduction trace, and another solution if the spacing rule is removed. Private witnesses never ship. Progress uses morass.hanare.v1. Replays keep the first solve time. No ads or analytics run inside the game.

About Hanare
In a lamplit cartographer's study, each outlined province needs a single rune equal to its number of squares. The rune may sit anywhere inside its province.
The nearest two runes in a row or column must have as many empty squares between them as their numbers differ. All 160 original charts are open, with one independently proved answer and a path of deductions without guessing.
Your first solve time stays with each chart. An uninterrupted first solve on the game page can claim the named best shown beside the clock and on its atlas card.
