How to play
- Goal
- Decide whether each paired plate is a magnet or neutral, and orient every magnet so its positive and negative poles satisfy the edge counts and never touch a like pole.
- How it ends
- A chart opens when every plate is decided and all displayed counts and the no-like-neighbours rule hold; a chart cannot be lost.
- Record
- Each chart keeps the fastest first solve as a public record with its holder's name.
- Every outlined two-cell plate ends as +/−, −/+, or neutral/neutral. Counts above and left give positive poles; counts below and right give negative poles. A dot means no count. Equal poles cannot touch along an edge, even when they belong to different plates.
- Tap either half of a plate to cycle unknown → positive on that half → negative on that half → neutral → unknown. Tap an edge count to light its exact line. The worked picture uses a zero row on Chart 001: the shown horizontal plate must be neutral because either magnet orientation would put a forbidden positive pole in that row.
- Set every plate. The chart opens automatically as soon as all public rules agree. Bind a wrong full chart to see conflicting counts or touching like poles, then correct it. Undo and Restart keep the first clock, which starts when you open the chart. Replays are untimed practice.
Controls
| Tap / click a plate half | Cycle unknown → positive on that half → negative on that half → neutral → unknown |
|---|---|
| Right click a plate half | Cycle in reverse |
| Tap an edge count | Light exactly the row or column it counts |
| Neutral button / 0 | Mark the selected plate neutral |
| Arrow keys | Select a neighbouring cell |
| Enter / Space | Cycle the selected plate |
| + / − / Backspace | Orient from the selected half / clear the plate |
| Undo / Z | Restore the previous plate state |
| Restart | Clear marks without resetting the first clock |
| Escape | Close a panel or return to the chart folio |
All 160 fixed charts have one exact answer and an independent no-guess deduction trace. Removing magnetic repulsion makes every chart ambiguous. A false Bind reports only public contradictions. Private answers do not ship. Saves use morass.magnets.v1; sound follows the shared arcade setting. No ads or analytics run inside the game.
About Magnets
In the Drethold Night Forge, each paired iron plate may hold a positive and negative pole or settle as neutral slate. Warm copper and cool opal currents make the field visible as you work.
The row and column edge counts are known; matching poles cannot meet across an edge. Each of the 160 fixed charts has one independently verified answer and a route that needs no guess.
Your first solve time stays with each chart. A live first solve can claim a named public speed record; later solves are untimed practice.
