How to play

Goal
Draw one loop through every numbered star so each straight run through a star matches its number.
How it ends
The chart finishes when every number fits one unbranched loop; Undo and Erase allow corrections while drawing.
Record
Your first unassisted finish keeps your time for that chart; later plays are practice.
Worked visual example for Geradeweg
Worked example. See the rule happen, then follow the numbered rules below.
  1. Join orthogonally neighbouring cell centres into exactly one closed loop through every number. The loop cannot branch, cross or revisit a star; unnumbered stars may be left unused.
  2. Count unit links along each entire straight run, from turn to turn. Two links join three centres. Other numbers do not stop a run, so numbers on the same straight run must agree.
  3. At a numbered corner, both adjoining straight runs independently equal that number. Do not add the two lengths together.
  4. Tap an edge, or drag through neighbouring centres and release to draw one stroke. Alternatively tap successive centres and press Draw. Inspect a number to see its current horizontal and vertical runs. Cross notes are optional, and Erase removes an edge.
  5. Undo and Redo let you revise the loop. Restart keeps the first clock running. Reload preserves an unfinished first attempt and Undo, then that attempt finishes locally. Practice starts fresh when reopened and never replaces the saved first time.

Tips for Geradeweg

  • Count links A length of two joins three star centres.
  • Keep the run whole Another number does not end a straight run; only a turn does.
  • Check both corner runs Each run equals the corner number independently.

Questions about this game

Must every star be visited?

Every numbered star must lie on the loop. Unnumbered stars may be unused.

Can a number sit at a turn?

Yes. Both straight runs at that corner must independently have the printed length.

Can the loop branch or form separate circuits?

No. All drawn links must form one closed, unbranched loop.

Are cross notes required?

No. They only help you remember edges you have ruled out.

Can replay improve my first time?

No. Your saved first finish remains unchanged; replay is practice.

All charts are open. Reload retains an unfinished first attempt, Undo and its original clock; resumed finishes stay local. Practice reopens fresh and preserves your first time.

About Geradeweg

Draw one loop through the numbered stars. Each number sets the length of the entire straight run through it, counted in links between neighbouring cell centres.

All 160 original charts are open: twenty four-by-four, sixty five-by-five and eighty six-by-six charts across four shelves. Each has one independently verified loop.

Your first finish keeps its time for that chart. An uninterrupted verified first solve can claim the named fastest time; later plays are untimed practice.
