About Knight Errant

Guide a chess knight through every open square exactly once. Jump in an L, plan around blocked landing squares, and reach each printed checkpoint at its numbered step.

Explore 48 compact charts across three board shapes. Route lines may cross, and walls never block a jump over them. Undo a dead end or trim back to an earlier landing to try another route.

How to play

Goal
Visit every open square once with the knight.
How it ends
Reach Finish after every square, meeting each numbered checkpoint at its exact step. No return to Start is needed.
Record
Your first unaided solve time. Undo is allowed; later solves are practice.
  1. Choose a chart. Start is step 1; each landing adds the next number.
  2. Tap a square two rows and one column away, or two columns and one row away. Walls block landings only, so you may jump over them.
  3. Visit every open square once. Reach a printed checkpoint only at its exact step, and reach Finish last. You do not need to return to Start.
  4. Route lines may cross. Only repeated landing squares are forbidden.
  5. Tap an earlier visited square to trim the route back. One Undo restores the entire trimmed section. Undo and Redo never add a time penalty.
  6. Restart asks before clearing the route on the same chart. Its original clock keeps running.

Tips

  • Work toward the next checkpoint Count the remaining jumps before its printed step. A route that arrives too early cannot use that square yet.
  • Reserve an entrance A square with few knight neighbours may need to be visited before those entrances are used.
  • Read landings, not lines Crossing route lines are allowed. Follow the landing numbers to see which squares remain.

Good to know

Progress and Undo stay in this browser. Returning to Boards in the same page keeps the clock running. Reload restores the route as untimed practice. Clock discontinuities or unavailable safe storage prevent time submission. There is no time limit.

Questions

Must I return to Start?

No. This is an open tour from Start to Finish.

Can I jump over a wall?

Yes. A wall forbids landing on its square, but never blocks a knight jumping across it.

Does Undo spoil my time?

No. Undo and Redo remain allowed on a first solve. Restart also preserves the original clock.
