About Merge Drop

The merge-drop game, in an alchemist's crucible. Aim, drop an orb, and when two of the same kind touch they fuse into the next: Ember, Dewdrop, Moss-seed, Amber, Moonpearl, Salt-crystal, Quicksilver, Bloodstone, Stormglass, Sunstone and the Philosopher's Stone. Fusions that follow each other within a second chain, and every link adds more.

The crucible is calm and fair: orbs never jitter, a fusion never flings its neighbours out, and a run ends only when an orb rests above the brim for two whole seconds — a ring on the orb shows them running out. Every fusion flashes, rings and throws sparks in the orb's own colour, and the room warms as the chains grow.

The Ten keeps the best runs of the endless Crucible and of each day's Daily Crucible, where everyone is dealt the same orbs. Every run is re-played by the site before it is ranked, and any run on the Ten can be watched.

How to play

Goal
Fuse matching orbs into ever greater ones and score as much as you can before the crucible overflows.
How it ends
The run ends when an orb rests above the brim of the crucible for two seconds; there is no winning, only a higher score.
Record
Each crucible keeps the Ten — the ten best scores with their holders — for the endless Crucible and for each day's Daily Crucible, where everyone gets the same orbs.

The simulation uses only + − × ÷ and square roots, so every browser re-plays a run to the same score; the records worker re-plays every run before it enters the Ten (checked in V8, JavaScriptCore and Firefox). Your bests stay in this browser under morass.merge-drop.v1. No ads or analytics run inside the game.
