About Runegrid Weaver

In the scriptoria of Orenvalt a scribe is dealt a hand of carved runes and an empty vellum. Lay a word, hang more words off its runes, cross and tuck them until every rune in the hand is down in one connected crossword where every line reads as a word, and the hand is woven.

Ten scriptoria, from a novice's desk to the grand weave of a cathedral, deal hands of twelve to thirty runes and add one twist each: gilded runes that double every word through them, ink blots that close cells, words already inked to build from, heavy runes, a narrow vellum. Every hand keeps a top ten for points and for the fastest weave.

How to play

Goal
Weave every rune in your hand into one connected crossword in which every line of runes reads as a word.
How it ends
The hand is won the moment the last rune locks into a complete weave; it is lost if the hourglass runs dry first.
Record
For every hand, the ten best weaves by points and the ten fastest weaves, each checked by replaying the run.
  1. Drag a rune from your hand onto the vellum, or tap a rune and then a cell. On a keyboard, click a cell and type: the runes go down across, or down after Space. Every line of two or more runes must be a word, and every rune must join the one crossword.
  2. The hand is woven the moment the last rune is down and every line is a word. Each word scores its runes, two more for every letter past the third, and a gilded rune doubles it; a rune shared by two words counts in both. The hourglass runs out and the hand is lost, though you may weave on for practice.
  3. Drag a rune off the vellum or press Backspace to take it back; Return takes them all. Whisper asks the scribe for a word that fits, three times a hand, for fifteen points each.

Good to know

Only your first weave of a hand counts for the fastest-weave board, and ranked runs are checked by playing them again. A paused hand becomes practice. Your progress stays in this browser.
