What the game counts

For any one chapter, the time from your first step into any of its puzzle rooms (optional ones included) to the moment its last required room settles must be 20:00 or less on the journey clock (a provisional threshold). Halls, passages, the refectory and the buttery do not start the timer. Each chapter's start is recorded once per journey and never reset, so the attempt is the first time you enter that chapter. Pausing stops the clock. Any single chapter is enough.

Before you start

The route

  1. Through the refectory's west arch, enter the Shelf passage. Turn the Folio with X, cast Draw on it, wait about three seconds, Handle it and carry it to the Receiving bench.
Edge-on, the folio fits the slot and the pull slides it out.
What you see: "The folio rests on its conservation receiving bench." The twenty minutes are now running.
  2. Go north into the Vent antechamber. Cast Orient on the Hood, Handle the Door and walk through onto the landing.
Turned once, the hood breathes its draft up the wall instead of onto the door, so the door stays where you push it.
What you see: "Vent antechamber settled."
  3. Cross the Entrance court to the east arch. In the Counterweight repair room cast Tether on the Connector, then Handle the Service shelf lever, the Brake, the Catch up the steps, and the Supplies.
The tension link joins the weight's broken eye to the car's line again, so once the shelf and brake let go the counterweight lifts the car to the catch.
What you see: "Counterweight repair room settled."
  4. Continue to the Bell chamber. Cast Heat on the Bearing, wait about seven seconds, Handle the Pull.
Hot resin runs out of the pivot, so the pull can swing the clapper.
What you see: "Bell chamber settled."
  5. Back through the court to the north arch: the dark frieze. Swap the ornaments by hand, turn the Diamond twice and the Ring three times with X, Handle the Archive latch.
No spell is needed; the plaques and cards give the order.
What you see: "The aligned followers pass through and release the archive latch."
  6. Through the raised gate and up the winding stair to the sagging gallery. From the floor cast Draw on the Cart, climb while it rolls to the near pier, cross the beam and Handle the Return latch.
The parked cart's weight sits on sound stone, so the cracked beam carries you.
What you see: "The sagging gallery settled." Chapter 1 is complete.
