Opening Gambit
Defeat the War Table having killed each of its five pieces first, every hero alive at the end.
An achievement of the War Table, counted in five ticks: one for each piece that is the first to die in a won fight. It takes at least five victories, each opening on a different piece. A fight that is lost earns nothing, and in a group a hero who dies fails it.
The video is a male Spellblade, drawn at random from the classes no other guide uses, and the piece he opens on is the Queen. She fell 41 seconds after the pull, then the King, the Rook and the Knight, and the Bishop was the last piece standing; the fight was won 3 minutes 1 second after the pull and he was never hit. The cards show Float Like a Butterfly (The Immortal Game on this boss), Endgame at 1 of 5, because the Bishop was last, Opening Gambit at 1 of 5 for the Queen, and the Spellblade's class ladder, Best of Both Worlds.
How to earn it
- Pick the opener before the fight and spend everything on it. No other piece may die before it, so keep your area spells off the rest: the Queen and the King stand only about 13 degrees apart as seen from the middle, and an aimed spell keeps the piece last struck while the aim stays inside its cone.
- Its death heals every survivor by a fifth of their health and gives each of them its spell: from then on every piece casts the opener's spell too. Pick the opener whose spell you read best.
- For 2 s after the death nothing new is cast and nobody can be hit. Use the hush to turn to the next piece and to find a clear square.
- After that it is the ordinary fight: kill one piece at a time, since spreading damage over several pieces costs up to half as much again. The middle of the fight, with two pieces dead, is the hardest part.
- Repeat with each other piece as the opener: the King, the Rook, the Bishop, the Knight.

It pairs with Endgame, which counts the last piece instead of the first: one fight can move both.
